SOCIETY OF MAYFLOWER DESCENDANTS IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA JUNIOR MEMBERS PROGRAM

Florida has over 900 Junior Members spread out across our state in each colony.  For membership in the Florida Mayflower Junior Members Program, visit your individual colony&s web page at Colonies above.  Applicants must not have reached their 18th birthday.  They are sponsored by a regular member of the Mayflower Society (parent, grandparent, etc).  Junior Members may remain in the Junior Members Program up to age 24.  They may then convert to regular membership before they age out on their 25th birthday.  (Download application here.)

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Florida Society offers three $2,000 educational scholarships. The FSMD Mayflower Descendants Scholarship program is normally restricted to high school seniors and entries must be submitted in the spring semester of the student’s senior year. However, due to COVID lockdowns during 2020 this past year, entries from those who were high school seniors in past spring semester of 2020 will also be accepted. Two of the scholarships are toward colleges/universities and one is toward to vocational education. The applicants must have a proven ancestry to a Mayflower passenger, and the sponsoring relative must be a member of the Florida Society. An unweighted GPA of at least 3.0 and the completion of a 400-600 word essay on the Pilgrims are required. No financial information is requested.

EDUCATION PROGRAM

The chairman of the Education Program in the State of Florida is Alvene Watson.  Alvene is available to train colonies to provide programs in their local communities and provide resources to assist with those programs.  Alvene may be reached at fhwaew@mindspring.com.
